
Universal free public transport, introduced in Montpellier in southern France in December 2023, is proving to be a runaway success. Road transport accounts for the lion’s share of air pollution in Montpelier: 82 per cent of nitrogen oxides and 66 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions.

Would really love to see a study on the financial side of this. I’m sure some of the cost of transportation will be offset in the medium-long term by less money spent on healthcare, but I’m genuinely curious.
