My uncle escaped Cuba as a teenager during Castro’s rule. He had family members that were thrown in political prisons and starved for publicly complaining about the lack of food. He escaped to the United States on a raft when he was 17, and left behind his entire family. Last night, we were talking about the U.S. under the current MAGAt dictatorship and he basically told me if the U.S. was like it is today, he would have stayed in Cuba.
