  1. tl;dr: The Tennessee Valley Authority, the largest public utility in the U.S., asked people to conserve electricity as freezing temperatures sweep the country. It actually worked, and customers did their part to use less power.

  2. You know what works even better? PAY THEM to use less electricity at critical times. Demand-response works. Programs like r/Ohmconnect can cut demand at peak times and pay people that slash their usage.

  3. We had something like this come up in Summer 2022 during a massive heatwave here in California. We got emergency alerts on our phones telling us to turn off any appliances we can spare. It worked and cut demand during the extreme crises hours.
