  1. It’s not a secret, and obviously the whole thing was a publicity stunt. Yes, they flew her in. Yes, she’s someone they carefully picked to avoid Donald being asked whether he likes his fries with a side of thirteen year-olds.

But yes she does do gig work for Doordash, and yes the Administration thinks it’s a good idea to boast that the no tax on tips helps people who can’t retire because the for-profit medical system in America has already engorged itself on both their insurance and their retirement savings.

This isn’t something they’re ashamed of and trying to hide: They boast of it, because her story represents the economy the Heritage Foundation wants to build: Nobody has job or financial or health security, everything is transactional, machines make all the decisions, and menials handle work robots can’t do yet.

  2. It’s hilarious that Diaper Don is getting bad press, and thinks “I know, ordering McDonalds will make me look presidential!”

    He’s such a cringe loser.

  3. Holy cow if people only knew what Door Dashers actually make. No benefits. I’m lucky if I get a tip at all most of the time. They really try to pay you next to nothing on delivery too.

  4. What did that poor woman let herself in for?

If only the country she lived in provided cancer treatment to its citizens without extortion, coercion, blackmail, and the constant bait and switch twin threats of refusal or bankruptcy.

  5. Why focus on rising prices, gas prices, and the Economy from this stupid war you started when you can do shitty publicity stunts to gloat about “no tax on tips” which isnt even actually a thing since all you signed into law was just an increased tax deductions on tips

60yo woman doing fast food deliveries to help pay for husbands cancer treatments. Used to stand next to a pedophile billionaire who covers everything in fake gold and bring him cold fries.

    America is an evil country.

Serious Question: Is this administration capable of doing anything that’s not fundamentally a lie, misrepresentation, fabrication, or obfuscation? Is anything based in at least some level of truth simply not something they can give serious consideration?

  8. How much money is she making if “no tax on tips” is saving her $11k? A lot of tipped workers don’t even pay taxes because their yearly income is less than the standard deduction.

The second I saw her brand new shirt I knew it was highly orchestrated bullshit.

Initially I assumed it was a kickback for Trump, the reality was somehow much dumber.

  10. She was very hesitant to talk about who she voted for. I imagine she may not have votes at all in the last election.

It makes me sad that I have to stop using Door Dash, now that they’re all political.

  12. So…a senior citizen has to work every hour she can manage in between taking care of her husband with cancer and they claim that this is a success story…

    JFC people…

  13. For the thousandth time, Republicans get caught doing what they accuse others of doing…crisis acting.

  14. You can eat anything you want in the world by the best chefs ever but you’d rather have Ronald McDonald cook your lunch..?! that makes no sense

  15. Trump accuses Democrats of using crisis actors, paid protestors etc. to further their own goals. Meanwhile, DoorDash Grandma. Every accusation is a confession.

    “My husband needs cancer treatment.”
    Billionaire: “Here’s $100.”

For reference, I’ve given a homeless guy $50 before, and at the time I was roughly 70,000x poorer than Donald Trump.

In other words, me giving a homeless guy $50 would be like Trump giving a homeless guy $3,500,000. but he gave this woman $50. Which would be like me giving a homeless guy 7/100ths of a penny.

So he couldn’t even get a crisis actor to agree with his stupid trans bs?

  18. mantis_tobaggan-md on

Does anyone actually think this man would walk out to collect his own food? Or that random people are permitted to hand deliver a package to the president? *Of course* this was staged. And they would never risk having cameras there if they didn’t already have a plan. The hilarious part is that even this staged PR stunt was a flop.

  19. Per the article:

    >She told Trump the No Tax on Tips policy—passed last July as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill—has saved her $11,000 in the year since it was enacted, money that has helped pay for her husband’s treatment.

but the bill only allows you to declare UP TO $25,000 of income from tips to be free of taxes. The average person who works a tips-based job is reported to be saving about $1500/year from this. The median income for people working tips-based jobs is $33,500/yr, which puts them in the 12% tax bracket, and a max savings of $3000/yr.

But the absolute MAXIMUM anyone could possibly save is $9,250 per year – but this requires you being in the top federal tax bracket (37%). But to be in such a tax bracket, this “door dash grandma” would need to earn at least $640k/year on her own… or $768k/year with her husband.

Yet she’s claiming she saves another $2k/yr on top of the absolute maximum possible!?!?

Why did Trump’s big beautiful bill allow people making over $100k/year to even qualify for this??? it just seems like a new shiny tax loophole for people to abuse. Ssince restaurants can require a fixed gratuity, What prevents other people from changing their pay scales to be a lower price point but add in a required gratuity – so that they end up with less less taxable income every year????

  20. Idk I think a 65 year old women being forced to get a doordash job to not even be able to afford her husbands cancer treatments is a very fitting representation of Trumps economy.

  21. It wasn’t a secret that this whole thing was staged and that she previously spoke in front of congress about the no tax on tips bill… but what is really driving me wild is that she’s in a shit situation because of her husband’s cancer treatment expenses and it doesn’t dawn on her that she’s pro-the president who cuts funding for cancer R&D, and supports the party that does the most to avoid medicare for all.

America is so third world our citizens will defend the leopards eating their faces until they’ve been fully digested by said leopard.

  22. Did anybody really think some random Door Dasher can walk up to the White House for a delivery? Or that the President doesn’t have people at his beck and call to go buy stuff for him?

  23. That picture is a classic. Maybe it will be used in history books someday as an example.

  24. Of course it’s a publicity stunt. There’s no way a Doordasher would be able to walk up to the White House. There’s no way the President would answer for the food.

He has a button that makes sodas get delivered to his office, if he wants a hamberder staff would make it happen.

  25. TheBlueBlaze on

Even when you ignore that this woman has been a living prop before, that entire stunt felt extremely tone deaf regardless.

An old woman has to do Doordash for tips to pay for her husband’s cancer treatments, a highlight of how three functions of the government have outright failed her (worker rights, cost of healthcare, social safety net). And this gets *highlighted* so she can praise Trump for having her tips no longer be taxed.

Not only is she below the minimum income level to get those tips taxed in the first place, but this is almost literally a pittance being framed as competence and benevolence. We watched a woman play a peasant, thanking the king for his generosity.

Anyone who actually bought into the propaganda that stunt was trying to be doesn’t understand how fundamentally broken their view is of how the government should help people.

  26. You know what would make a big difference in an uber drivers life: Not having gas up 60-65%
