News snippet: Senate Democrats condemned the U.S. Treasury Department’s decision to issue a temporary license on April 17 allowing purchases of Russian oil stranded at sea, calling the move “shameful.”
The criticism came after a policy shift by the Donald Trump administration, following Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s statement that the administration “will not be renewing the general license on Russian oil,” alongside a separate decision involving a waiver related to Iranian oil.
The renewed license permits countries to buy Russian oil and petroleum products loaded onto vessels as of April 15 through May 16. It replaces an earlier 30-day exemption that expired on April 11.
Senate Democrats said the initial waiver, combined with high global oil prices during the Iran war, provided Russia with roughly $150 million per day — more than $4 billion by the time the exemption expired, according to estimates shared with the Kyiv Independent.

It’s less playing for a fool, although that’s unquestionably true, but more a meeting of minds, at least in Trump’s case. He looks at what Putin has and he wants it for himself. The same with Xi, Orban, etc. He despises open, democratic states and he loves authoritarian regimes.
He is, to put it simply, an absolute piece of shit.

Trump isn’t being played for a fool, he is a Russian asset.

That’s the most charitable explanation.
A more realistic one is that he’s a traitor, corruptly selling out the USA’s national interest to hostile foreign despots.
The indisputable fact that he’s an abject moron and a soft mark for blackmail due to his criminality doesn’t mean he can’t also be corrupt or a traitor. It simply means his price can be laughably low. The fact that he’s incredibly petty and absolutely untrustworthy on top of that doesn’t remove the possibility of him being a foreign asset either. It just means they can only use him to weaken or destroy the USA rather than turn it into a reliable servant.

It should be obvious by now that both Russia and Israel have dirt on Trump. He’s bent over backwards to accommodate both countries with no benefit to US interests.
That and distracting from Epstein of course.

Trump may well be the only person on the entire planet who does not realize he is being played by Putin.
