And yet we have to wait for an election, hope the democrats win, so that congress does its job and removes a totally corrupt and unqualified president from office.

“We’re just going to stay out of his way…” – Republicans

  2. SimplyAbiRose on

Republicans in congress are Trumps puppets and wont do anything even if 80% of America wants it

  3. He should have been impeached and removed last year for threatening to blow up Chicago.

  4. Nothing will happen, the polls can be under water and it won’t matter. Trump isn’t up for reelection he doesn’t care what the voters want, he only pretended to care to be voted in so he could enrich himself and his associates. Republicans don’t care about their constituents, this is a nothingburger with a side of cope.

  5. Charming-Report1669 on

None of this matters. They would all still vote for him tomorrow if given the chance.

  6. Republicans pulled Nixon aside and told him he had no chance and to resign. I think there are too many in the Senate that are compromised to impeach and remove

And keep in mind, back then the only place people had to get news was their daily newspaper and a handful of broadcast news networks, and radio. They where not being fed a constant stream of propaganda and lies by Fox News telling them everything is peachy, and that the other side were demons and groomers, and that up is down, and a 30% drop in price is a 300% drop.

Turns out the 4-D chess was destroying the Republican Party from the inside with the help of Putin and Musk.

  9. Senior-Purchase-6961 on

Well hopefully they give themselves a big pat on the back for eventually learning everything *after* they voted him in for a second time.

  10. “The poll found that 55 percent supported impeachment, 37 percent did not, and eight percent were unsure.”

  11. J-the-Kidder on

I don’t care what voters say in a poll. Especially when you consider how little the GOP reps care about their own voters. Until the Republicans start turning on him in droves, none of this matters. Maybe after primary season they will, but I’m not holding my breath.

  12. GuitarGeezer on

To a degree I can see more defectors, but I will only believe that of many Republicans only when they have bugged reps and senators enough to impeach and remove. That’s wassup.

  13. mapoftasmania on

Like the last two times, the Senate won’t convict him. Impeachment is futile.

Which is why the Senate needs to be reformed. It’s an unrepresentative care home.

  14. I don’t think that headline means what it’s trying to mean…

Nixon’s media consultant, Roger Ailes, realized at the end of Watergate that if the press had been with them Nixon could have stayed in office.  Roger Ailes founded Fox News in response.

Ever watched a congressional hearing? It’s two groups speaking to different media spheres, completely separate and independent. Now Trump has extended that his own media platform.

Until Republican senators are being goaded/threatened by Fox to go after Trump we won’t see an impeachment — I don’t think we have enough time for that before the term ends.

  15. The GOP has mortgaged their future to their king, if they stick with him they lose the next election cycle, perhaps two. If they “betray” him, their party is fractured for good.

They’re sticking with him, hoping things don’t get worse.

    They’ll get worse. Much worse.

  16. The only reason his own voters are turning on him is because they don’t like the fact that prices have increased for them to survive. His voters don’t even see Impeachment as anything more than just a tool to get rid of a POTUS that they disagree with.

  17. NorthChiller on

Meanwhile congressional republicans are signaling support for the pardoning of a convicted child sex predator.

    Pathetic abdication of their responsibilities.

  18. Trump makes watergate look like an April fools joke, and your telling me it took this long for him to match Nixon.

  19. Difference: the Senate during Watergate, although highly partisan, had come through McCarthyism and was -for the large part – patriotic. They had different views on policy and racial equality and finance but we’re generally all pro social. This current Senate, thanks not exclusively but mostly to citizens united, are not in practice beholden to their constituents as much as corp donors who have MORE speech and BETTER speech. Thanks, roberts., but also thanks Newt/Norquist RedMap that set this up.

  20. He’s back down to his base–those folks are, unfortunately, unreachable.

“Some men you just can’t reach.”

  21. The House can impeach him with a simple majority vote. Unfortunately, good luck getting two-thirds of the Senate to vote to convict him at a trial.

Clowns like Graham, Blackburn, and Cruz will suck tRump’s c*ck until their dying days.

  22. Only-Friend-8483 on

I don’t think we should continue to allow articles from the daily beast in this sub.

  23. He has done a lot worse than Watergate. He is a convicted criminal and a pedophile. How is he making Watergate numbers?

  24. Lee_scratch_perineum on

Let’s leak the incriminating Epstein files and put this over the edge!

  25. Boring_Comfortable70 on

The only difference being Nixon had the good sense to actually resign. Trump will never relinquish an iota of power.

  26. I would kill for our politics to have a since simple scandal like Watergate these days

  27. campfire_eventide on

GOP needs to take a side or they’re all getting primaried

So many of them went along with Trump just because they gained something by doing so, so maybe they’ll betray him if there’s something to gain

I think they actually convinced themselves he wouldn’t lose public favor even if he screwed over his base again and again

But the maga brand is cratering. Polls are actually sinking beneath his previous approval floor. Maybe self-interest will cause them to inadvertently do the right thing just so they can put some distance between themselves and Trump before midterms

    Tick tock

  28. Rascal_Rogue on

“Oh no, he’s giving us everything we wanted and our lives STILL suck!” – His voters, probably

  29. TheManWhoShotTheMan on

Don’t worry USA you have a constitution which stops all of this kind of behaviour.

  30. Intro-Nimbus on

Not lower than that? Watergate was a nothingburger compared to what’s happening now.

  31. So Watergate… when the R party spied on the democrats and then Nixon lied about it and got caught on tape

    Is equivalent to

    ICE private army, murders

Unprovoked and iillegal war in iran

    Unparalleled corruption and self dealing

Hiring crazy useless unqualified ppl like RFK Patel, ice barbie, bondi

    Weaponizing the doj

    Cutting benefits to millions

    Firing federal workers

    Trillions in new debt

    Raping children

    Raping women

    Rug pulling crypto

Putting his name and face in everything, illegally

    Fraud

    Stealing government documents

    Accepting bribes

    Pardoning criminals

… and a few more things
