  1. >As the early license renewal order went out, FCC Chair Brendan Carr criticized ABC’s parent company, Disney. Speaking on a podcast hosted by Katie Miller — whose husband is White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller — Carr said there are multiple ways the FCC can handle broadcast licenses.

    >”You can accelerate when a license comes due and say, ‘hey, we have significant concerns with the value of conducting your operations. We want to review your license now and decide if you’re in the public interest,'” Carr said. “If we find that a broadcast hasn’t been doing that, then the statute requires us to issue a hearing designation order.”

Ah, so just moving to quash free speech.

Not like you guys have a whole amendment about that or anything.

I’m a Brit so collect me if I’m wrong but don’t you guys have something called the first amendment?

  4. I suspect negotiations for the White House to obtain an equity stake in Disney are about to open.

I don’t find Kimmel particularly funny or insightful and the joke in question was too easy and just low-hanging fruit. But this is your pathway to state-controlled media and that’s a top-10 to-do list for authoritarian regimes.

Right now the regime is still giving the appearance of going thru the motions. It won’t be long at all until Trump just orders things he doesn’t like shut down. Even if the courts order things to be restored, he won’t listen and there is no one to hold him accountable. he is a dictator and Congress is scared of him.

Trump probably tried to solicit sex from Kimmel once and he declined, now he has a grudge.

  8. Guys, they have to distract us from the botched attempt on Saturday night (botched in the sense that JD was saved first, and it was so embarrassingly staged that no one believes them), which was supposed to distract us from what a boondoggle Iran is, which was supposed to distract us from ICE sweeping our streets, which was supposed to distract us from the tariffs that we’re all ultimately paying, which was supposed to distract us from all his mentions in the Epstein files, which was supposed to distract us from how often he fills a diaper…I think. It’s getting difficult to keep track.

This administration has irrevocably broken so many long-standing procedural traditions.

I’ve learned that, unless something is 100% codified saying that you cannot do something, they will do it. And even if it is codified, there’s a 50% chance they’ll do it anyway. So much of our government was based on unspoken gentlemans agreements, and they’ve tossed all of it out the window.

This should alarm every single US citizen regardless of political affiliation.

When Democrats take over in a few years we need to go FULL scorched earth on republicans and Republican media. No more games. Kiddie gloves are off. Take down Fox News. Take down conservative voices. If they’re going to commit lawfare then two can play at that game.

  12. Surely Elon Musk will come out against this, being all about free speech and “comedy being legal again”

Denying ABC a license renewal would be such a self-own… it would piss off the general public who watches ABC programming (prime time shows, major sporting events, etc), Kimmel went dark for 3 days and the backlash was swift, could you imagine the backlash with ABC going dark completely.

It’s as if they are actively brainstorming how to make this administration even more unpopular.

  14. They probably feel pretty smug about their move right now but it’ll be a drag headed into the midterm and a real pain the ass with one or two houses of congress flipping to democrats. Disney will sue and probably win.

  15. Great fact : we can now make the same with FoxNews and NewsMax on the next president. Thanks to a bunch of snowflakes, we now have all the ammunition to be able to work on closing the mouth of these Nazi channels.

  16. APoisonousMushroom on

Hah ABC is owned by Disney whose in-house lawyers probably number about 10% of the lawyers employed across every division and field office in the entire DOJ. There’s a reason for the saying ‘Don’t fuck with the mouse.’

  17. Maybe the next democratic administration should pull this stuff on Fox/Sinclair/OAN and see how they like it?

  18. I’m sure they won’t sue and a judge won’t find this arbitrary and capricious.

  19. Feels like every headline makes this Joke out like it happened after the theater play instead of few days before

Corruption and illegal acts caused by even more illegal acts against The First Amendment.

  21. These things can take up to six years to resolve. This is more of an intimidation tactic to other platforms that are not resource flushed like Disney.

A lot of interesting precedents being set. At this rate MAGA will be easy to wipe out with all the tools they’re creating for the next administration
