I like what he says, but given his background, I don’t trust that he’s not just going to be another Fetterman. Still, even a Fetterman is better than a Susan Collins.

Enough with the Fetterman shit and concern trolling. The Dems got burnt once, but this is a fool me twice situation with so much on the line. Platner is even more of a progressive than Fetterman campaigned as, and that kind of heel turn will go a lot less far in Maine than Fetterman (who is going to lose his seat ASAP) was afforded in rust belt PA.

  3. Moderates better coalesce around Platner after screaming “vote blue no matter who” at the left for 10 years.

I want platner because as a veteran myself hes exactly how a good NCO presents himself.

  5. I guess any burly white progressive is in danger of becoming the next Fetterman no matter how well articulated their views and genuine they come across? I think this guy is great and exactly what we need in politics.

  6. Conscious-Demand-594 on

Even an incompetent democrat is better than any RepubliKKKan, so let’s get out and vote for this guy.

  7. To anybody saying Platner is the next Fetterman, people grow and change as individuals, and the alternative is a senator who has carried water for a rapist criminal.

Primaries are the time for purity tests. General elections are the time to win.

The best Maine can do is a white man who only covered up his nazi tattoo because people *during this ongoing campaign* saw it and called him out for it.

Why do I still get surprised that this country is such a shithole when the political opposition to the regime is as aligned with the regime as it is milquetoast left-of-center progressivism?

  9. Listen, I’m all for progressives and getting Susan Collins out but I can’t shake the feeling that this guy is going to be another Fetterman if he wins. Him getting a nazi tattoo really freaked me out (even if he covered it up). Alas, Im not from Maine and I also didn’t really care for Janet Mills so who knows.

  10. I’m convinced that the Fetterman comparisons are just from Republicans trying to convince Democrats not to support Platner.

Threatens? Writing is on the wall for the wannabe resister and trump enabler! Let’s hope GP stays true to his populist rhetoric!

I’m actually kind of bummed that Mills dropped out. Not because I wanted her to win, or because I thought she should have been in the race at all, but because this would have been a good early test of a progressive vs. establishment Democrat candidate.

Platner was going to win, and win bigly against her. It would have been worth it for her to stay in the race to show the rest of the party the strength of Platner’s progressive message. Beyond that, now with no primary debates Platner won’t have a chance to cut his teeth before the general.

Mills dropping out now is selfish and actually kind of detrimental to the party. She wanted this race, Schumer wanted her over Platner, she should have stuck it out.

He was just on The Weekly Show podcast with Jon Stewart and I cannot recommend listening enough. The guy is going to shake things up I think. Let’s just hope he doesn’t have any crazy skeletons in his closet.

  14. Lol he’s going to get blown out the nanosecond the Republican party goes to work on him, he’s got more skeletons in his closet than a mortician

Gotta love the Internet (sometimes at least)

  16. This newsweek article talks about Mills and Colllin’s platform way more than Graham’s. It’s really strange to me to have an article about a candidate but then give that candidate’s opponent’s platforms more exposure than the candidate they are writing about.

people are fucking pissed. put aside aipaic, just say you’re going to bat for the american people against this fascists and you’ll get them behind you

  18. Platner is one of very few voices of reason right now. And fuck Susan Collins forever.

Don’t be another Fetterman – Don’t be another Fetterman – Don’t be another Fetterman

I would stay home in this election no matter who wins. I can’t imagine being a progressive and voting for someone who got a Nazi tattoo and an Iraq War veteran

  21. This guy had a bump in the road a few months back, didn’t he? I don’t even remember what it was all about, but he seems to have moved beyond it.

  22. Life-Quantity-637 on

Platter means the culture wars are over. Better find a new way to attract support.

Susan Collins is safe and will remain safe until she either dies or quits. Her ability to say she disagrees with republican president, vote for him and then be shocked is uncanny and for that reason she will not be voted out.

All GOP and GOP pretending to be democrats need to be voted out.

  24. Hefty_Musician2402 on

    Mainer here:

I would’ve voted for either of them to beat Collins. That said, as long as they don’t continue shit slinging, this is probably for the best. The longer they had to compete, the more money they’d each spend just to degrade each other’s chances and put each other on blast.

Mills would not have won IMO. Sure, the coastal dems would vote for her, but the fishermen and truckers all HATE her ever since she took Covid precautions, and since she stood up to Trump, and the left hates her (rightly) for her recent data center ban veto and for being a “corporate Dem.”

She was in the same place as Harris where she was too “corporate” for leftists and too pro-human-rights for right wingers.

Platner is also hated by the right wingers, I think because they know leftists like him. They already talk about how he’s a “fake blue collar worker” and how he “was born into money.” But there might be JUST enough of them who stay home that he could win.

Idk, fingers crossed for Susan to lose tho
