Good. Since they don’t want to get rid of gerrymandering, Dems should gerrymander as much as humanly possible in response.

The Republican Party is evil. That’s it. It’s evil. *That’s all there is to it*. So, winning against the GOP is the most important factor, because the GOP isn’t operating in good faith. The fascists have proven that they don’t care about laws, nor any values besides cruelty. It’s *imperative* to triumph against that evil.

texas redrew their maps mid-decade at trump’s personal request, nc did the same, and the supreme court just greenlit all of it by gutting the vra. dems have been playing by gentleman’s rules while the other side rewrites the rulebook every cycle at some point you either adapt or you keep losing seats you actually won

As we’re all still absorbing the impact of this ruling, one thing I haven’t heard discussed yet and I was thinking about today is what the impact, in the next decade or two, is going to be on Democratic Party voter, specifically Black Democratic voter, enthusiasm and participation in southern states that are about to lose their sole representative. I mean, what is the motivation to turn out to vote in a hopeless electoral situation? Will the state Democratic Parties in South Carolina, Mississippi, and Alabama just become a shell of themselves?

Correct. Same thing with the rest of the extremist right wing policies, they need to be met with extreme left wing policies.

We can reverse this. Canvass for southern states from the comfort of your own home! Find progressive candidates who are running – even if you do not live in disenfranchised areas of the south — and text or phone bank for them, donate to their campaigns, and spread the word on your socials (Mobilize is one place to start). Democracy is a team sport. We can gain back seats.

Yes. Gerrymander the party out of existence in blue states. The GOP made the rules, now we all get to play by them.

There are rules?

I agree with her on this one. The MAGA republicans keep moving the line on what is and is not acceptable. The democrats need to obviously pick and choose their battles, but the first step is to absolutely take stock as to which of the old rules have changed and what their new strategies are going to be.

Unfortunately the reality of it all is this. If they don’t, Democracy is lost. Republicans are going to do *everything* in their power to steal this next election, mainly by disenfranchising citizens of the United States of America.
We have 187 days to level the playing field as much as possible.

Agreed that it has to be done. The whole thing is very sad, though. Trump is succeeding in his destruction of just about everything. This has been a Republican dream since at least Newt Gingrich.

Damn straight! We are not going to save our democracy by playing by what we believe the rules should be. We have to play by the rules as they stand, using whatever loopholes or legal maneuvers we can. Much of the damage being done right now can be rectified in the future via constitutional amendments and federal law changes, but we’ll never get the chance if we don’t play fire with fire.

The fact that Lousiana is literally trying to cancel an active election right now to ‘gerrymander even more’ shows that democracy is fully broken. There are no rules left and you have to do literally EVERYTHING in your power to fight these fascists.

only way to fix it….do so much of it that republicans finally agree that it needs to be banned entirely. problem is they lose either way so they might want to stick with the gerrymandering so they can use it as “they cheated!” talking points and try to get better at doing it more themselves instead of adopting a more universally popular platform.

Let’s start in New York, a state that has had one Republican governor since 1975 and has 7 Republican House members.
California with 7 Republican house members? That’s easy to fix. Then we can work on states like Michigan and Pennsylvania with democratic governors.
They want to start a game let’s finish it. They have a lot more to lose, and I don’t think that’s occurred to them. Land still don’t vote.

Nate Silver conducted a pretty comprehensive analysis on this topic. Basically if the Democrats had the balls to gerrymander as bad as the GOP they would ultimately create MORE seats than the GOP could. Not by much, but more nonetheless.
