All credible intelligence points to Iran stopping serious pursuit of a bomb in the early 00s. There was even a fatwa from the Supreme Leader in place from around the same time period that was against development of a bomb. Then there was the nuclear deal with Obama they were following that Trump shredded during his first term.
Before Trump they weren’t trying to make a bomb and the straight of Hormuz could be freely navigated. Now, because of Trump, they likely are going to try to develop a bomb and they control the straight of Hormuz.
