AI data centres are expanding rapidly across the UK and they require enormous amounts of electricity and water infrastructure.
My concern is that ordinary households could end up indirectly paying higher energy and utility costs through grid upgrades and increased demand, while some of the world’s richest tech companies benefit.
I think large AI and cloud companies should fund the infrastructure and power generation their projects require rather than passing costs onto the public.
This petition is calling for stronger protections for public energy and water infrastructure:

What do people think — should hyperscale data centres pay more toward the infrastructure they use?

I’m lost why the data centers are not paying their own utility bills
