This is a remarkably bad idea for the long-term stability of the United States. She tampered with an election, she should serve the entire nine year sentence.

Polis is such a dipshit. Perfect example of the problems with corporate Dems

  3. Lucky-old-boy on

And this is the current Dem strategy – hold firm until it’s slightly inconvenient then cave in

It really helps send a message. Break the law for Trump and you’ll be protected. It helps encourage future crimes and interference.

Famously, if you just give into everything the bully tries to make you do, he’ll move on and bully someone else, right?

  6. PansophicNostradamus on

How long until someone commits a wild crime in this country and uses legal precedent set by the Trump administration to render all crime moot since the laws are unevenly enforced?

  7. Well it’s nice to once again show that we also hate crooked Democrats but I still wish they’d stop giving us reasons

  8. Wise-Operation247 on

Just raise the white flag and be done with it.

Why try to save this democracy

Wait til trump pays her for her troubles like he paid Mike Flynn and Carter Page for their troubles.

  10. Unfortunately the people that have the responsibility to protect and serve cave to trump’s demands and drop to their knees and kiss the mushroom. She shows no remorse and will do it again

I am so desperate for real consequences. I will vote for whoever makes eliminating corruption and making sure there are consequences a top priority. Letting off someone that tried to subvert democracy is inexcusable. I want anyone thinking of trying to undermine democracy or commit corrupt acts with the government to know it could never be worth it.

    Are you serious?

Tina Peters deserves every bit of justice that comes her way, if not for the irony of her crimes alone. She conspired to tamper with election systems and steal voting data to try to prove that the 2020 election was stolen.

The safeguards in place *worked* because she was caught and convicted on seven different state charges.

Even if she managed to accomplish her goal, she still would have committed multiple crimes and It wouldn’t have proven a damn thing.

Whether the 2020 election was stolen didn’t hinge on the success of her paranoia-driven mission.

And the MAGA hypocrisy is baffling.

Aren’t they supposed to be staunchly opposed to election/voter fraud? Yet they show sympathy to Peters because she’s an election denier.

“No no, it should only be illegal when the other side does it!”

Trump can’t pardon Tina Peters due to her state convictions. So why the fuck is the governor stepping in?

    > Now, she’ll go free, thanks to a Democratic governor who commuted her sentence because, as Polis argued, Peters was a nonviolent, first-time offender.

What the fuck kind of rationale is that?

If I commit multiple felonies in Colorado as a first time, non-violent offender, can my sentence be commuted to?

Keep in mind that not a single democratic legislator supports this move.

Polis also argues that Peters admitted wrongdoing in her private clemency application…

So she privately admits wrongdoing while applying for clemency? As anyone in her position would do, whether sincere or not? And that’s a reason to commute her felony sentences?

But Peters never publicly apologized for her crimes, and her private apology is arguably worse than no apology.

She’s maintained over and over again that she did nothing wrong. Her lawyers were in the middle of contesting the conviction.

A private admission made within the context of a clemency application where remorse is required for approval carries no weight at all.

She’s not rehabilitated, she just filled out a fucking form correctly!

    So what’s the catch?

We know that Trump has been pressuring the state to free Peters because she’s a high profile election denier who strongly supports Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was “rigged.”

But the Trump administration has also been threatening to punish Colorado, strip the state of federal funding, and shut down state organizations.

So if this is Polis bending the knee to Trump in order to stop these attacks, he’s both a crook *and* an idiot.

Everyone should know at this point that yielding to Trump’s dictatorial threats just ends up emboldening him more! This won’t stop him, it will empower him to continue strong arming his opponents.

Polis is term limited, so he doesn’t give a fuck anyways.

What a coward. I hope this stains his political career.

  13. Polis is an absolute coward trying to hide this in a Friday news dump. I hope that entire community shuns him forever for this traitorous shit.

  14. Polis doesn’t get it. This person is gonna go make the rounds on Right wing media raving about how she was right and God intervened to free her. She will stab Polis in the back first chance she gets and will become the poster child for Trumps persistent claims that he won in 20. This is a stupid move.

  15. Nice, undermining democracy, integrity and judicial process all in one go. /s

Democrats 101: Piss on the citizens and nation in the name of “unity”. Act shocked when voters identify them as the soft/gutless party.

And we all know that “unity” just means corporate interests. Not sure when people finally reach a tipping point with our clown government, and I’m shocked it hasn’t happened yet. Maybe fuel prices will be the catalyst.

  17. Parking-Art-8456 on

I would argue what she did, and plans to do, is a violent – a violent violation of every citizen’s civil rights to choose sane government that doesn’t kill people indiscriminantly.

  18. Fuck Polis and his family they are going to move to Isreal right after his last day, calling it now.

  19. Expert-Explorer8894 on

There’s a hidden quid pro quo, Dems need to investigate it and find the crime.

  20. whats the point of having laws if people will continue to break them and get away with it? oh they learned their lesson? I don’t think so.

  21. Polis is a nepobaby just like Trump. Got his start in business from his wealthy parents while claiming he’s self-made. Probably trying to get a position in the current administration so he can enrich himself further

  22. He’s termed out. Jared Polis is a weak politician and this is a disgrace to our democracy.

  23. Polis is an idiot here. I get the whole “we live in an over incarcerated country” and his push to reduce incarceration for non violent crimes, but that should not be applied to planned out election fraud or white collar crimes like this. It’s fucking nuts. I also don’t think it’s smart politics given the rising public sentiment about a lax criminal justice system. Read the room, Jared.

There is not one Republican Governor in this entire country that would pardon a Democratic clerk that tried to cheat on behalf of Biden.

And history repeats itself. The US was soft on the Confederates and that’s how we ended up in this situation.

Here they are doing the same shit again.

Democrats just cannot help themselves. So frustrating. Given the chance, they will shoot themselves in the foot.
