Putin has centered power around him more and more.Paranoid as he is, he disallowed any critical thought. Because the increasingly worsening situation for him, with Ukraine free to target whatever, this is power structure becomes very fragile and very much depends on him being there. If his communication would be isolated, what can easily happen while traveling abroad, he would be over. And dead probably. If I were him I would not leave.
China could actually be a covert helping hand in that process. And then offer asylum to Putin. It would even be the get out of jail free card Putin himself was looking for.
Who knows, there may be exciting times ahead
