An utterly horrendous case, but in a world of limited time and resources, at some point you have to draw a line.

How devastating for her. 😞 I can see where they’re coming from but ugh, that’s rough.

It seems like they basically believe the theory about the excavator driver and Ben’s remains being moved, and there is no further the case can go, sadly.
I can really understand the impulse of parents in these situations. Of course there would be a part of you that can never let go of the hope that your child is still out there, particularly in situations like this where no body was ever found. No matter how much people may sneer and cast aspersions, you would absolutely spend the rest of your life searching. All of us will grieve in our lives, but many of us will experience the absolutely traumatising purgatory of never knowing.
This is never going to happen, but in an ideal world the press would be principled enough not to broadcast the parent(s)’s desperate pleas purely to keep spinning the wheels of a story that gets clicks.

Reading some of her comments, my heart goes out to her, but after all this time I think some counselling is needed. Am obviously not saying she needs to get over it, but it feels like she’s just never accepted it – that if she can just figure out the clues, she’ll find her son alive and well.

I went to school with Ben’s little sister in the 90’s horrific and I hope one day they find peace
