“The most immediate political consequence is that Democrats appear increasingly well positioned for the midterm elections in November. The poll shows Democrats have a double-digit lead, 50 percent to 39 percent, when registered voters are asked which party’s candidate they’ll support for Congress. That’s a notable shift from Times/Siena polls earlier this cycle — which showed Democrats up two to five points.

Anything like it would easily overcome the Republicans’ redistricting advantage in the House and suggest that Democrats could be highly competitive in the Senate. And although there’s still a long time until the election, Democrats held an even larger 14-point lead among those who said they were “almost certain” or “very likely” to vote.”

  2. Going to be funny watching these gerrymandered districts flip and then less funny when the GOP cries foul.

  3. Romantic_Piscean on

It strikes me as extremely challenging to try to take a percentage of Democratic voters, add them to a Republican district, and not have that make some red districts more competitive given that Trump will be a negative in the mid-terms. The question is whether that’s -5, -10, etc., but it’d be wonderful to see gerrymandering punished at the polls.

  4. That moment when people hate you so much, that you and your party do everything you possibly can to cheat, and are still going to lose…

  5. wasabi_dream on

I can’t imagine anyone but fools and billionaires approving of this administration

The percentage of fools is troubling though

  6. SwvellyBents on

It won’t be a win for the Dems unless we get the supermajority. We have to not just make the right impotent, we have to make them irrelevant.

  7. So when Democrats take over and redraw the maps in their favor, the GOP SCOTUS will be fine with it… right?

  8. Abject_Panda_4710 on

If they do lose the majority the response will be something ironic like, “See? That’s how horrible the radical left gerrymandered the country, we can’t even win the majority when we gerrymander!” All talk of ‘have better policies’ will go out the window.

  9. busdrivermike on

Gas prices could rise to $10 a gallon, and Trump will still be worshipped like a God by every middle aged gas station attendant in Kansas.

  10. TreeCitizen on

And suddenly Cuba, despite having no oil or any factories, will “drone strike” Florida, and suddenly we will have martial law and there will be no election.

  11. Hopefully the gerrymandering doesn’t matter as their own voters vote against them.

  12. The nyt is on the billionaire’s side, not your side. They report what they are told to report, not the whole truth. Remember that and VOTE! If you think the midterms are a lock, remember who told you that. The liars. Vote!

  13. Efficient_Resist_287 on

Don’t believe none of it…the white female vote which is the largest has never swung against Trump.

By November, there will be an immigrant caught for some criminal activity, a caravan forming in Central America moving to the US border, a black menace from Democrats cities preying on suburbs…etc.

The excuses to vote GOP will be endless for that morally corrupt constituency to keep MAGA in good shape.

I have yet been proven wrong since 2016.

  14. I’ll believe it when I see it. The fact trump got a second term does not give the world any confidence in 1) republicans not still voting republican 2) democrats and independents getting out and actually voting.

This plus long lines for the polls with ICE wandering up and down snatching anyone they think MIGHT be illegal out never to be seen again (spoiler alert: the number of illegals waiting inline to vote is zero) will scare a lot of others away.

I truly think America is over and it is too late to fix. It’s kinda karmic after all the fucked up shit they did around the world so sorry / not sorry.

  15. UltraMegaUgly on

Well if you are the most corrupt morally bankrupt party of all time at least you’te running against the most inept party who blames all ills on the majority of the electorate.

  16. KelsierMistborn88 on

Never underestimate the stupidity of American voters. It’s how we got Trump.

  17. Stereo_Jungle_Child on

Trump and the GOP are not-so-subtly pitching their blatant electoral interference/tampering/gerrymandering to the country as “the easy way” of allowing them to remain in power forever. And this is just the beginning of this. Their message is already getting clearer “Allow us to keep cheating like this to stay in power and it won’t have to ‘get ugly’. But if we have to do it ‘the hard way’, we will”.

We’ll be at the inflection point soon. If the Trump/GOP carrot doesn’t work, they’ll shift to the stick.

It’s exactly like how The Mafia operates. They don’t WANT to kill people, but if you don’t let them do what they want, they will. The message is clear: Just do it our way and no one gets hurt.

  18. This is all talk right now as if it’s a sure thing. I want to see results I want to see the MAGA lose big this year and in 2028, I just want the GOP to finally “find out”. Vote!

  19. APraxisPanda on

It’s gonna be interesting (and probably frustrating) to see how they cope.

  20. Thin_Ad_2542 on

I can’t believe people still believe it’ll be anything truthful it’s gonna come down to “fuck you guys I’m not leaving” and then either we make him or we don’t 🤷🏻‍♂️

  21. Burritosupreeem on

It is our civic duty to vote. And this time, vote like we never have before. Any blue person, hold them accountable to vote. Any purple, convince them to vote blue. It’s up to us and the only way we are getting this evil out. Our only weapon in this fight is turnout. Make it a nuclear bomb.

  22. It’s a little more than 6 months to November. Politically, that’s an eternity and anything can happen. Don’t hold your breath on a democrat sweep, or that the results are tied up in the courts for months, or if we have elections at all.

  23. And then we will get to the bottom of the Epstein files. No more distractions. Justice!

  24. Inspectorgadget4250 on

Taking a SWAG, the upcoming midterms will see the highest turn out of people of color in decades

  25. If there is a wipeout, there better be a friendly tit for that round of blue gerrymandering immediately after

  26. wolftron9000 on

It’s crazy that they won’t even consider doing less terrible shit. Gerrymandering will only help if they can get their voters to come out and vote. The average voter is not going to be motivated to support a billion dollar ballroom.

  27. Savings-Double498 on

Don’t let headlines and articles make you complacent. You still need to get out your vote.

Trump has created a single issue voters can use. If a candidate is Trump aligned, vote for another candidate.

Need to be vigilant about strawman candidates.

  28. LeonardSmallsJr on

There’s ALWAYS hopeful things like this six months out and then shit ALWAYS flips. Stay strong and don’t let anyone forget Epstein.

  29. Insane that it took a decade for him to finally start to lose even a fraction of his base.

  30. RicardoVizcaya on

I’m not from the US so I shouldn’t care… But please don’t believe these articles and opinions and in the next election, just go out and vote. Everyone, vote.

  31. Meme_Theory on

The floor is and has always been 36% – this article is dumb from the very start.

  32. jtoppings95 on

No matter how much this administration hands them the advantage, I have very little faith in the Democrats to actually do anything with it beyond squander it.

Jared Polis, a democratic governor from Colorado, just commuted Tina Peters sentence. They never fail to disappoint

  33. Traditional_Sign4941 on

Let’s hope Republicans watering down their districts will come back to bite them in the ass.

The bigger issue, as I see it, is that treasonous anti-American traitor Mike Johnson will refuse to seat the newly elected reps. We are going to need to be prepared to make the peaceful tour Jan 6th continue looking like a peaceful tour if we want to have representation in this country.

  34. Not one single family member I’ve spoken to about this says they won’t vote republican. Institutional republicans who grew up voting for the same party no matter what will continue to do the same regardless of the impacts on their lives. It’s quite disheartening

  35. the Dems need boots on the ground to get the vote out and not concede them

  36. rvretiredlife on

What’s funny is they’re pissed at Trump and all his bullshit. They’re not pissed he’s stealing from them, but that gas prices are high and he started another war.

What’s funny is they will continue to vote for their republican congress, who are allowing Trump to do all this. It’s not just democratic dollars paying for all his bullshit lawsuits, but their money as well.

So why don’t they vote out all Republicans? since all but maybe 2-3 support Trump and all his illegal bullshit.

  37. EntropicTendancies on

We need to elect democrats willing to fix the election system. Eliminate the electoral college, greatly expand the number of seats and switch to proportional elections. Judicial reforms as well.

  38. Wasteland_Mystic on

Cheating. Republicans face wipeout in House despite cheating. Stop letting these fraudsters control the narrative.

  39. ActualTymell on

So long as a single Republican remains in power, it’s not enough of a wipeout.
