I mean I agree with him. I don’t think it will happen or it will fix a lot of short term problems that are what affect most people now but it’s definitely a good longer term vision.
I still don’t think politician get the general public (even Andy) because there doesnt appear to be any solution for how to fix th everyday issues people face now, mostly not havin a lot of money in many cases.
These will definitely help but if they do in 5 years that is still more years of squeeze and I don’t see how people can take that.

He’s not for me, but at least he’s setting out something different – a choice for people to make instead of the same old recycled shite. We need politicians who have the balls to be bold and set out an actual view for the future – not bland, dull as dishwater process drones like the current principal resident of number 10.

Re-industrialisation? I thought that was an impossible pipe-dream for the West?
JoeyJoJoeJr_Shabadoo on
I don’t think he’ll be any different in practice, but I also think that a more charismatic man than Starmer could be politically identical to Starmer but have twice as much support, purely that’s because how fickle the voting public is.
PARFT on
what’s actually new there that wasn’t set out in the party manifesto?
He should also note that de – industrialisation was nationwide – and other areas need to get a similar look in.

Much what I’d have expected him to stand for. All aligns with my views. I just dont believe it will be enough to get him voted in as an MP. Labour shit the bed when they blocked him before, and it will cost them a new reform seat imho
stephenjwz on
The support for proportional representation is good if it turns into it happening. and i think he correctly observes and points out the fiscal conservative stuff that would give working people a kicking if reform got in.
the rest of it is very vibesy. idk that public ownership of utilities is a panacea. if successive governments can’t or don’t regulate them into behaving, it leaves me doubting that whatever governments we get in the near future will do a great job of running them in their entirety. idk what industries he expects to create or revive for ‘reindustrialisation’, i don’t think industry in this country is wholly in the place it’s in due to ideology, i think some of it was coming however badly handled the transition was. and labour already harp on about building more housing and run into planning walls, i don’t get how it’s more achievable whether it’s council housing or non-council.

Then when we don’t reach the end of this “new path” after 4 weeks of Burnham in office, it’ll be time for another leadership challenge

Will someone get Andy Burnham a stylist. He looks, like a thunderbird puppet or an action man doll with a pair of NHS glasses that are too big fir his face.

A path where you can choose to stand for re-election as mayor and then ignore that 2 years later when you want to speedrun to no’10.

I mean this is all well and good…but didn’t Parliament just vote on the Kings Speech, which sets out the government policies for the coming parliamentary session?
So I guess all his supporters in Parliament are in favor of tossing in the trash the legislation they just voted on?

Easy to say you’re going to reindustrialise but really hard to achieve. You are going to need to commit to a long term project to ensure we are training people up with the requisite skills and encouraging emerging technologies to locate themselves in the UK. The removal of the level 7 apprenticeship funding for over 21s will be a big hindrance.
Mass council house building is a great idea. Will he have the guts to legislate effectively enough to prevent NIMBYs stopping it?
Greater public control of utilities is just weasel words. He just means he’ll beef up the regulators.

Apart from Streeting’s position on the EU I really fail to see what they would all bring to the table that Starmer already is (not)

I don’t know why Andy Burnham is getting wall to wall coverage, like he’s the second coming. Al Cairns is clearly the person that Labour should choose – he will be a very difficult person for Reform to counter. Honestly, they will miss Starmer, because he is such a soft target.
Burnham won’t even win the byelection, given the huge resources that Reform will chuck behind it.

He’s right though. Utilities should not be ran for shareholder profit. We also do need more cheap council houses, they may not be pretty, but functional.

You can make all the plans in the world… you can say them until you’re blue in the face… but until you’re actually in power and see the books… you have no fucking clue if you can afford to do anything. What political capital it costs to implement those plans.
This is why Farage will say what ever gets him elected knowing full well none of it is achievable.

Positive proposals but i think what he is attempting to do will result in another political party having a civil war and us all suffering because of it.

Just read through that and there is nothing. Criticism from Burnham of both Reform and Labour under Starmer but no offered policies proposing anything that is different to what the Starmer administration offers. The only difference is proportional representation and I don’t see what good that will do for improving people’s lives.
If there is nothing new to be offered, how is Burnham standing anything but a personal clutch for power?

This’ll be predictably played down as foolish and pie in the sky but it all sounds quite sensible to me. Obviously thin on details but which manifesto isn’t?

Saw a clip of him today being asked to criticise Farage, and all he could come up with was “he’s always been very friendly when I’ve met him”. Seems weak tbh.

I just want him to unequivocally rule out council tax revaluations, it’s (rightly or wrongly) particularly targeted at Londoners and it genuinely makes non-political people angry – [https://www.buyassociationgroup.com/en-gb/news/what-wannabe-prime-minister-andy-burnham-says-about-housing/](https://www.buyassociationgroup.com/en-gb/news/what-wannabe-prime-minister-andy-burnham-says-about-housing/)
