Some trading standards officer in the local council is not equipped to take on organised crime.

I’m in Kent, which gets mentioned as a hotspot to be targeted. These shops are the last ones left in town centre. Might as well just bulldoze it at this point. Forget shopping and turn it into a sports and leisure area. I’m as guilty as everyone else in the town, shopping online or at Bluewater.
The police raid the shops every 4 or 5 years, and post their haul over social media to a chorus of people jokingly posting “Is this still available?” under the bags of weed and cocaine.
But they never stayed closed for long. I don’t know if they can’t convert the raids into convictions, or the wrong people take the fall, but I know it doesn’t change anything.

Fascinating that the BBC seems to be doing better investigating than the police. Identifying one of the key people smugglers putting people across the channel, the rampant abuse in a lot of the corner shops, this, and much more…
What are the police doing?

So funny how they have the funds and ability once it’s in the news.
Governments will let things like this happen, everyone knows it’s happening and only when it becomes a national scandal is anything fucking done in this country.

The police do ok. What fails the police and us as citizens is the courts. Weak sentences , suspended sentence and of course the new rules about not prosecuting shoplifters.
