I’ve read about a similar scam. Victor Lustig went to Al Capone, got $50,000 and promised he’d could double it. After a couple months, he brought the $50k back basically saying he failed. Capone gave him $5k to help him out as he didn’t realize he was conned and Lustig was actually after that $5K.
