Tbh the British challenger tanks given to Ukraine use depleted uranium shells.
Putin made a whole bunch of threats back then about NATO giving Ukraine weapons with a “nuclear component.”
So without reading the article (which I’ll do now), this seems like a nothing burger if the drone is just using depleted uranium munitions

Please someone correct me if I’m wrong but depleted uranium is typically used in high velocity penetrators to add a lot of mass as it’s incredibly dense. Typically this is in discarding sabot sub-calibur solid darts when used as a tank round.
I’m confused as to why this would be used in part of what might be an explosive anti-armor shell, or does DU have an application in shaped charge other explosive driven penetrators?

To be fair, this seems pointless and stupid.
As far as i know, someone correct me if i’m wrong, depleted uranium shells’ usefulness is that while they are heated by friction with the air, as they travel to their target, they get superheated and sharpened and this is how they penetrate reinforced armor plates.
Dropped, or even launched munitions from drones can never achieve the high velicity needed for the superheated/sharpened effect…
So, seems like stupid scare tactics, or just plain stupid.

This missile was probably decades old in order for it to be able to produce this much radiation. (while sitting, the depleted uranium decays in to other, more “hot” isotopes, however, this takes.. a minute). This is not in the “OMG evacuate the nearby neighborhoods” levels of hot, but it DOES tell a story.
A story that’s not a good sign for the state of russian stockpiles.

As far as. I understand and unless war regulations ( haha, the joke) have changed, depleted uranium is used with any bullet above a certain caliber. This why during the Serbian and Iraqi conflict, uranium contamination were so high, endangering the life of the locals for a very long time. Many babies were born with massive disabilities.
