This primary had 200% voter turnout, and despite Massie leading +50-60 points going back two decades, he lost by exactly 10k votes. Ed won by 10k votes, with almost ~98% of all mail-in ballots voting for him.
Ed had a total of 75 donors, Massie over 1500 including individual contributions. There’s the +40 point swing in the polls too. Ed held no debates or rallies and his victory speech was in an empty room.
There’s so many outliers here, it’s hard to say the primary was legitimate this time around. The mail-in ballots alone are a statistical outlier.

Trump is popular with Republicans. That won’t change. If they cared about policy they wouldn’t be Republicans in the first place.
This subtext of the whole discussion is that Democrats can’t try to cater to ANY Republicans. They will only ever vote for whoever Trump tells them to vote for. If they want to win elections they must go left. Period.

Ron Paul libertarians, fence-sitting independents, and fiscal conservatives were sacrificed at the altar of Trump.
