This is the sort of thing that the 1.8 billion should go towards. Not giving money to J6 rioters that tasered police officers in the throat.

Spending 37 days in jail over a political meme because a local sheriff didn’t know the difference between Perry, Iowa, and Perry County, Tennessee, is absolute insanity. The Sheriff literally admitted he knew the quote was about an Iowa school shooting, but arrested him anyway to prevent hysteria. That is a textbook definition of police arresting someone for contempt of cop under the guise of public safety. This settlement is massive, but it’s paying out with taxpayer money, not the sheriff’s budget. Until we end qualified immunity, the public keeps footed the bill for police ignorance of the First Amendment.

I just wish they didn’t shoot the dude through the neck for speaking his mind. That’s the real tragedy in all of this

The people who arrested and prosecuted him should be arrested and prosecuted.

i’ve heard a lot of people say if you advocate for no gun control and you get shot, you get what you deserve.

This is a well-deserved payout. That said, I would certainly be willing to be incarcerated for 37 days on some bullshit for an $835,000 payout.

As a former cop the fact that he refused to use his 2nd amendment to protect his 1st is another log on the “2nd amendment is only for white citizens to be able to deputize themselves and murder black men in case we feel white supremacy is in danger” pile.
Because that was the actual original intent, to put down slave uprisings.

After Bushart’s release, the local sheriff, Ween, was interviewed and was functionally braindead.
His argument was that local yokels felt threatened by the Facebook post that directly quoted Trump, and that necessitated him being charged. What?!
Can I be charged if I post an innocuous message in Arabic that freaks out idiots?
I bet that red-faced fool will keep his job after effectively robbing the county. He should be unemployable.
