  1. Might have something to do with one group constantly shouting about how high it is while those with the real data just quietly post their findings.

This is probably similar to the classic issue of voters thinking lower inflation rates lead to prices being reduced

When people talk about “immigrants”, they really mean “non-white people”.

Because voters have it in their heads that net migration needs it to be negative. In their heads, it means: higher wages, cheaper rent, lower taxes.

  5. They’ve already started adjusting their narrative to “end immigration” (not net migration); and “re-migration” (mass deportation of non-white people).

You can’t reason with people who don’t reason. They don’t care about facts or data. It’s why the most anti-immigration views are in areas with the lowest population of immigrants – it’s ignorance.

You can, however, mock them. E.g. when someone complains that there are too many immigrants, agree with them and then argue that all the Anglo Saxons and Normans should go back to where they came from. Before they came here there was none of these problems.

Voters across parties know migration is ridiculously high. They just weren’t aware that it was even higher the few years before (close to 1million iirc).

And the drop isn’t directly because the government are stopping them. The UK prospects are just getting shittier.

  7. Because kier delivers everything with the same monotonous tone, good news bad news all comes out the same. If he could communicate better people would be happy with many of the policies implemented. Labours PR department is terrible

The ‘sharp drop’ in net migration is actually just ending the Boriswave. It’s a regression to the mean – returning from stratospheric, utterly insane levels of immigration [back down to the sky high immigration we had before.](https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/640/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2025/11/27/2a736f56-5df7-488d-8dbb-7761041c2bea.png.webp)

It would be wrong to assume people should just be happy now. Take the Boriswave out and immigration is still higher than it’s ever been in history.

    Everyone knows what they mean.

    Stop being obtuse.

They mean there are more migrants than before, therefore it’s rising.

You know that, they know that.
