What’s the point of mistreating PoWs? Isn’t it counterproductive? You want your enemy to give up rather than fight to the death. If you’re known to torture prisoners, they won’t. Low-ranking soldiers generally don’t have information you can extract with torture etc. It seems like pointless or even counterproductive cruelty?
