Resistance against tech giant is now a necessary task, otherwise most of us will probably become jobless within a few years if not earlier. The corporate greed is real.

Utah votes for politicians that routinely put corporations before citizens. Citizens mad corporations get free rein over polluting water near data centers. The Dems need to seize this issue. No one, on the left or the right, is supportive of these big data centers that consume huge amounts of water and power and drive up utility costs for everyone except the data centers themselves. Also, people are just suspicious if ai in general because they recognize the potential for large job losses.

Aren’t they buying the water rights to the land they’re purchasing in the middle of nowhere? So instead of the water being used for irrigating crops it will be used for the data center? I didn’t understand how this is “our water” when it’s for data centers but it isn’t when it’s used for crops?

They don’t have enough water to support the data center.

The irony, of course, is that there’s no reason to use the community’s water at all — at least not more than once. A closed water system tied to a heat pump for cooling the facility would work. When combined with a solar farm (like California has done with their desalination plants), the entire complex could be relatively self-contained, powered, and have no impact on the community or environment.
But that would cost some billionaires some chump change at start up and lower the kickback the Mormon corporate cult sponsored politicians are taking to greenlight this deal, so…

If protests like this have no effect then it is only going to increase the chances of direct action against data centers. Look out for legislation that specifically targets direct action against tech infrastructure like data centers.

France2 News had a very interesting talk with Policloud CEO who talks about smaller data centers (container box size) being able to serve as local AI providers, who use power much more efficiently and even can sell energy to farms who want the heat for growing veggies in their greenhouse.
Think smaller scale micro centers spread around rather than huge noisy ugly inefficient ones which drain water and fuel resources.

Give em the water they voted for. If they don’t like the free’est water in the world they can leave. Look at the snowflakes always out in the streets complaining. I bet none of these people have jobs. Adelsons have to be paying these free loaders begging their government for clean water and cheap energy bills. It’s not the government job to kill business and give welfare to you poverty queens.
