pedophilia is getting so normalized in this world and how can this inhumane shit be legal?

  2. From the article. All credit goes to Unchained At Last, who are fighting to ban child marriage across the world.

    >Some 5,063 teens were entered into marriage in Ohio between 2000 and 2024, according to marriage certificate data from the state health department analyzed by [Unchained At Last,](https://www.unchainedatlast.org/child-marriage-in-ohio/) a nonprofit that leads a national movement to end forced and child marriage.

    >A 17-year-old girl from Ohio can be taken overseas and forced to marry a lucky man who gets not only a teen bride but also a spousal visa and path to citizenship.

    >Additionally, men in Ohio can legally import 17-year-old child brides from any country around the world, a legal form of sex trafficking.

    >Further, marriage before age 18, even for the most mature 17-year-old, creates a nightmarish legal trap, simply because minors have limited legal rights until the day they turn 18.

    >This is why all marriage before age 18 is recognized globally as forced marriage, which, in turn, is recognized as [modern slavery](https://www.ilo.org/sites/default/files/wcmsp5/groups/public/@dgreports/@dcomm/documents/publication/wcms_575479.pdf).

    >The U.S. State Department also calls marriage before age 18 a [human rights abuse](https://2009-2017.state.gov/documents/organization/254904.pdf), due to the devastating, lifelong repercussions it produces for girls. It undermines [nearly every aspect](https://www.jahonline.org/article/S1054-139X(21)00341-4/fulltext) of girls’ lives, from their health to their education and economic opportunities to their physical safety.

    >SB341, sponsored by Republican Sen. Louis Blessing and Democratic Sen. Bill DeMora, would solve all these problems, yet it would cost nothing. It has a $0 price tag. And it would harm no one, except creepy men who prey on teenage girls.

  3. Only 17 states have banned child marriage in the United States. Those states are

    1. Delaware (2018)
    2. New Jersey (2018)
    3. Pennsylvania (2020)
    4. Minnesota (2020),
    5. Rhode Island (2021)
    6. New York (2021)
    7. Massachusetts (2022)
    8. Vermont (2023)
    9. Connecticut (2023)
    10. Michigan (2023)
    11. Washington (2024)
    12. Virginia (2024)
    13. New Hampshire (2024)
    14. Maine (2025)
    15. Oregon (2025)
    16. Missouri (2025)
    17. Oklahoma (2026)

That means 33 other states haven’t banned child marriage. That’s literally insane to think that 2/3 of the states allow child marriages. That’s crazy.

Republicans will claim whenever a drag queen simply walks out the house to “think of the children”, while child marriages are happening now. Just gross.

The statutory age of consent in Ohio is 16 years old. 17 isn’t a “child” the importation part is a problem. Not the age. If she was 28 importation without consent would still be a problem. If 17 seems too young, change the age of consent to 18, if that’s not considered a “child”

  5. But if I bring her across the river to Kentucky, THEN it’s illegal, right? Asking for a friend.

At some point we need to be real instead of this fear shit. Yes they should make marriage be legal at 18 but are you for real? You legitimately think you can just kidnap someone (regardless of age) and force them to marry you?

You can’t import people. I know you get a lot of love for saying child marriage is wrong but no one seems to realize we have immigration laws, we also have a very strict marriage system for people from other countries.

This article and the sponsors behind this bill are useless and only wastes time. Make 18 the legal age for marriage and don’t pretend it’s possible to import a 17 year old (or any age) for the demand of marriage.

Good job OP you’re really making a difference and not just wasting people’s lives

Okay I have to ask about the title does this law only apply to men?

    From the article, no.

    >About 90 percent were girls wed to adult men.

It also doesnt mention the age of the men these women are marrying. Something that could provide context.

Actually the article describes a situation the opposite of the title.

    >A 17-year-old girl from Ohio can be taken overseas and forced to marry a lucky man who gets not only a teen bride but also a spousal visa and path to citizenship.

    It then highlights the opposite.

    >Additionally, men in Ohio can legally import 17-year-old child brides from any country around the world,

Which indicates it is legal in these other nations for a child to be exported which should be something discussed right?

To be clear I support laws banning marriage before 18. And the fact that no one has testified in opposition speaks volumes. But this article is clearly pushing a narrative by not providing details that could convince people not to support the bill.

Evil people giving themselves permission to do evil things.

The U.S. government in action, for over 236 years.

The way of the wasicu must go.

  9. This is a bipartisan bill with broad support. Why aren’t they specifically naming those in the state senate who are blocking it?

This article makes it sound like it’s easy to “import” an underage bride. To get a visa for your fiancée, the current wait time is 11.5 months. You also need to provide proof of the relationship when applying. If you started the process on their 17th birthday, they’re probably going to be 18 by the time they get to the US.

If you try before that, you’re submitting evidence to the federal government of a relationship with a minor.

  11. That’s because we are now, and probably have been for a while ruled by pedophiles.

  12. Wow Republicans are now sex trafficking girls into Ohio, I bet all of those voting for this are Christian.

Seems horrific but legal is legal right? I can order up a couple of 17 year old French girls, or maybe Swedish. Any idea on shipping cost? free shipping with Amazon?

I say that because I remember some sycophants defending trump in his first term doing horrible shit that was technically legal. I wonder how they would feel about this.

This unfortunately is nothing new to any country in the world. Has been happening in front our face and under our nose for ages

  15. KartFacedThaoDien on

Wouldn’t this be something under the Department of State? Because they are the ones that would issue either a fiance visa or marriage based greencars.

  16. No. Not “Ohio lawmakers.” Ohio Republicans. You know, the ones who help protect the Epstein Class.

  17. This bill tried to ban same sex marriage in Ohio.

    >(B)(1) Any marriage between persons of the same sex is against the strong public policy of this state. Any marriage between persons of the same sex shall have no legal force or effect in this state and, if attempted to be entered into in this state, is void ab initio and shall not be recognized by this state.

It was a slimy attempt to get a same sex marriage issue elevated to the Supreme Court, and it’s good that it didn’t pass.
