  1. >It also bars teachers from talking about transgender people or issues in the classroom, which means books that include transgender characters or that address the existence of transgender people would be banned. It would also ban LGBTQ+ school groups.

    >Rep. Mark Takano (D-Calif.), chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus and a 24-year educator, said the bill puts transgender youth at serious risk. He noted that 40% of homeless youth are LGBTQ+, and it’s largely because they’ve been rejected by their families.

    >“Republicans claim to be the party of small government, but they have no problem bringing the full force of the federal government down against children,” Takano said in a statement. “The GOP thinks they can legislate transgender people out of existence with this inhumane ‘Don’t Say Trans’ bill, but all they’re doing is making life worse for a small minority of already-vulnerable children.”

    >Tyler Hack, executive director of the Christopher Street Project, which helps elect transgender people to office, said the House vote simply marks “yet another escalation in Republicans’ sick obsession with criminalizing queer people and trans youth.”

    >“Every student deserves the dignity and freedom to decide when — and to whom — they share who they are,” Hack said in a statement. “At a time when politicians should be focused on lowering costs and supporting working families, they are instead targeting queer and trans people — using them as political props in a cynical strategy to divide the country.”

Correction: 8 Democrats signed on to imperiling trans kids, placing them in the crosshairs of potential abuse.

Christian nationalists know darn well this bill will lead to many trans kids being abused by their parents, and they are glad to make this happen.

Christian nationalists would rather kids be dead than live happily in their authentic selves. They think they are “saving kids souls”, by having kids be abused by their parents, as if they are having themselves abused out of being queer.

Democrats that signed off on this should be ashamed of themselves. This is such a tragedy, the trans genocide in America.

    People sent to concentration camps:

“Undocumented” people       <- you are here

    Trans people

The rest of the queer community

    Racial minorities

Anyone who is deemed insufficiently republican

  3. The party of ‘small government’ and ‘local control’ has no problem using the full power of the federal government to mandate the surveillance of middle schoolers.

  4. Won’t this still have a tough time in the Senate as it requires 60 votes and even with Fetterman’s vote, they are no way close.

  5. There are always just enough Democrats voting with Republicans on bills that really matter. If one vote is needed, then one Democrat changes sides. If eight are needed, then eight step up. What should we understand from this?

When did the party become so focused on this topic? We wonder why Dems lose and will lose. Now we hate 8 Dems for a single view that many have but they aren’t open minded enough for the Dems and most of this sub. So we toss them. Then lose to a mid tier GOP asshat because we just couldn’t not run every fucking campaign on identity politics.

We could not focus on the economy or on corporate greed, couldn’t stay focused on healthcare or education. Nope identity politics has to be front and center and a litmus test for those that are or are not real Dems.

People are calling this vote similar to voting for concentration camps. For fucks sake that is nuts. Maybe some of us Dems struggle with allowing a boy into a girls locker room. Maybe we struggle with a boy pitching against a girl in softball or basketball. This actually does bother me. Because we want to be so opened minded we actually forget that other may have different opinions but still want to live in a safe and economically better world.

  7. “Democratic Reps. Henry Cuellar (Texas), Donald Davis (N.C.), Cleo Fields (La.), Laura Gillen (N.Y.), Vicente Gonzalez (Texas), Marcy Kaptur (Ohio), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (Wash.) and Eugene Vindman (Va.) all voted for this bill.”

  8. Second time I’ve seen that Vindman character pop up supporting trash GOP stuff.

  9. We don’t need Democrats I. Congress who support trash bills such as this one.

  10. But but but all queer people are pressured to vote blue no matter who when we are consistently thrown under the bus by the party that panders to us while stabbing us in the back.

I’m sick of establishment dems sucking. I hate them more than the GOP, because at least they are honest about being assholes. I bet these dems also love Bill Maher and shill for Israel.

    The Pattern Repeats (TM)

There are somehow ALWAYS enough Democrats to vote with Republicans to advance the Republican agenda and thwart progress.

the fact this is happening is such a disgrace. I fall into the category of straight white dude so I cant even imagine what it must feel to live in a first world country and actively fear for my freedom or safety over just being different than what some people have decided is the only acceptable way of being or being lucky enough to be a sex that doesnt get told what to do with your own body. Like the fear some people must have felt when they woke up one morning in ( cant remember the state ) and found that your driving licence is now invalid because it has your name on it or there is going to be detransitioning camps ( like what the actual fk) or reading any sort of the repulsive language that comes out of the whitehouse and its other departments constantly and realising that the government that “should” be protecting you as a citizen of your country is now actively hostile to you. I hope all this shit gets reversed if and when the government changes and its not too late and people have the foresight to enshrine this stuff in laws that dont just seem to rely on casual agreements that the law wont be turned on people of at risk communities to damage them. Stay safe.

This is what a “moderate” Democratic Party looks like in 2026.

Darn progressives with their “radical” belief in “human rights”.

That’s it, pas laws that discourage people to become or continue to be teachers. That’s one way to kill public education.

This will put so many kids deep in a terrible closet or deeply in danger.
