Ok, so can I please never hear about the Clarity Act again?
If Smith confounds everyone (not least the electorate) with her referendum riddle and it succeeds, the Clarity Act isn’t going to offer any defence down the road. If there was ever a point in time it might have mattered it was this week, but Carney is happy to let Smith take her gamble.

It’s very possible that these attempts to downplay the vote could end up resulting in low voter turnout, confusion over the topic, and a strong motivated organized separatist base pulling off an upset. All this vote-before-vote will do is delay the discussion further.
The best route would be a clear unambiguous question that would easily win since most Albertans aren’t actually separatists, and I doubt any premier would ever actually want to spend their time/capital pursuing that, but Danielle has to hedge her bets with her base by burying it in another host of referendums to keep stringing them along.

it’s probably for the best. the more Chretien and the federal government got involved in the ’95 referendum the more support for Yes went up. Team Canada needs to come from the provincial scene; Nenshi, Jason Kenney, dare I say it.. Stephen Harper.
