  1. Paywalled.

But I assume it’s about the standard Western problem, that defense money is spent on very small numbers of very expensive and very highly advanced gear.

  2. It’s ridiculous that the West still hasn’t learned any lessons from the Ukraine war so far. Spending absurd amounts on comically low quantities of weapons that would be depleted in days in a large conflict is not sustainable or effective. And yet they just keep doing it. The U.S is getting embarassed by Iran because they are trying to take down a single 50k Shahed drone by launching two four million dollar patriot missiles at it. And they are supposed to be one of the West’s better militaries. I can’t even imagine how stupidly the European armies would react under a similar situation since they are in way worse condition.

Sorry about the paywall. But yes, it talks of highly specialised and very expensive missiles which can only be made in small numbers…. literally a few a month. While the flamingo missiles are ramping upto 700 in a short time period. If you see what is happening, numbers matter. While developing high quality is good, a cheap large production line goes a long way in deterring a genocidal regime.
