This has come up a lot with many companies and 100% of the time the person signed up for it. They clicked the button because they saw it gave a discount without actually bothering to read what it said.
You can argue its deceptive and designed to prey on stupid people though and you would absolutely be right.

Uber is deceptive in their app regarding Uber One subscriptions. It’s very easy to accidentally sign up for a subscription and requires opting out (the default behaviour during a transaction is to subscribe). Very consumer unfriendly.
