It would be better to make the area indepent and occupy it temporaly to fix it.

I see this very often at the moment. I am German and planning to give us „back“ this land just feels like a zombie movie. Just give it to Poland and make it EU territory we can visit. The lands in the east should never be German again.

It is very difficult to describe. Why give Königsberg back and not Gdansk for example? And how should we manage this land through Poland? The Poles still don’t trust us Germans with anything so this „solution“ just brings up too many complications and too difficult feelings. If this case ever happens: Give that piece of land to Poland please.

Poland and Lithuania were offered Kalingrad by Russia years ago but refused it. NO one wants a land filled with Russians that someday will cause trouble.

  5. just make it a nice big national park. Who wants to invest in building the infrastructure to enable people to actually live their? Poland? Germany? I honestly doubt it.

Germany not interested. That little piece of Land stinks from Orcs Shit.

  8. The Germans had better not get these territories back… they’ll just come up with another scheme to demand an “extraterritorial highway” through Poland—either by persuasion… or by force… Especially since the AfD has just taken the lead over everyone else in the polls.

100 buses could transport the entire Kaliningrad population back to the Motherland in 100 days. Make the entire place an international nature preserve, so nobody can even say it was taken for the land. Degrowth it back into a forest.

  10. The problem is the population…. it would be a crime against humanity to send them out to Russia forcefully now. They did a great job 70 years ago colonizing the place after the germans were expelled.

Unless they voluntarily concede and move.

  11. Unless you can deport all 1 million living there, I don’t think any country would want to receive a few hundred thousand Russian.

German Here, with east Prussian ancestry.

Turn it into a international city, a Singapur of the Baltic Sea. Maybe the Russians are able to reform their ways if some of them experience the amenities of proper governance.

  13. As a German I must say, that this blood and soil bullshit has brought nothing but misery over Europe. We must not fall to the level of Russia.

I believe that, in case of a war between Russia and EU/NATO, there will not be a basis for the control of this land by the Russian state. However, that doesn’t mean displacing the entire population will be an appropriate solution.

The Russians are not better or worse on a genetical level than anyone else. The problems of Russia come down to culture and society, but that doesn’t mean that there couldn’t be a Russian culture compatible with democracy, peace and (social) liberalism. Maybe Kaliningrad could be made into a “Russian Taiwan” that could be integrated into the rest of Europe.

Having an independent, prosperous and culturally Russian country seperated from Russian imperialism, would also be a thorn in the side of Moscow, just like Taiwan is for China as the prove that Chinese people don’t require oppression to live in peace.

  14. Why give it to Germany? 😅 Did you not learn from Danzig thing?

It’s not like that one port gives any additional economic capabilities to Germany, that already has good marine infrastructure in Baltic Sea

  15. cl1t_commander_ on

Germany doesn’t want it back and this was formalized contractually in the 2 plus 4 agreement.
The city was heavily bombed/destroyed during WW2, rebuild with soviet architecture and the German population was completely expelled.
There’s barely anything German left in Königsberg.
It’s structurally weak and would be horrible expensive to integrate back into Germany.

    Nein Danke!

Instead of partitioning it, just make it independent with a clause in a new constitution that it can’t unite with Russia. Similar to Germany and Austria.

  17. Germany doesn’t Kaliningrad. Its a bunch of poor Russians and no cultural heritage left whatsoever.

  18. I still weep over the destruction of historic koenigsburg. Especially considering how good a job Poland did of maintaining historic Marienburg.
