Just days after a judge said Trump can’t build a ball room for non-security reasons, he happens to go to his first WHCD in 10 years

The plaintiff in the lawsuit challenging President Donald Trump’s $400 million White House ballroom project on Monday rejected a demand by the Department of Justice to drop that legal challenge in the wake of a shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner that Trump was evacuated from.

“Your assertion that this lawsuit puts the President’s life at ‘grave risk’ is incorrect and irresponsible,” wrote Gregory Craig, a lawyer for the plaintiff, The National Trust for Historic Preservation in the United States, to DOJ Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate.

Plaintiff: ‘You do know we all saw your immediate reaction to do your bs ballroom comments right?’.

Security was obviously not an issue if they were not even checking id’s hiring a real security detail would be less expensive than a new building that would have the same lack of protocols

  5. BrilliantForeign8899 on

What does 1 thing even have to do with the other anyway?? Of course they wouldn’t drop it

  6. It would be great if the lawsuit wins in the courts. But, we know what the current admin thinks of lawsuits or anything that says restrictions in the Hitler II regime. Ignore it because there is no such thing as The Rule of Law.

  7. This is just a different flavor of the “national security” argument that they were already making.

The real reason Trump wants a ballroom is that he’s fucking old.

Traveling is hard. And at 79 years old, traveling from DC to Florida is hard on him. He is basically trying to move Mar-a-Lago to him so he can just be corrupt in one place.

He wants to turn White House into a fortress.. fancy ballroom with huge bunker underneath

  10. VanguardAvenger on

Aww scared wittle orange pedo is gonna have to leave his house again if he wants to do things.

I mean he *could* stand up to the NRA and the murder lobby so he doesnt have to hide in fear.

But hes more likely to release the full Epstein files than take a powerful strong postion like that

  11. Equivalent_Sand8426 on

I find it very interesting that AI will not generally not give you information on defeating or bypassing NBC protection systems for bunkers (what keeps their air clean and if you defeated it would force them out) when you are doing research for your post-apocalyptic novel.

The perfectly coordinated rhetoric (sus) that “see this is why we need the ballroom” is soo stupid. Not every event is going to be hosted in the ballroom. Trump went to a UFC fight recently and he didn’t need the ballroom for that. Also, the reason why the WHCA wasn’t hosted at the White house is because it’s supposed to be a independent press group. They are not supposed to be an extension of the White house. Even though, now they basically are just stenographers for whatever Trump farts out his big pie-hole mouth.

Second. Regardless of our feelings on “do we need to build a ballroom at the white house”. The real problem is the President is not allowed to just knock down entire wings of the white house. It is not “his” house. It is owned by the Federal government. He can not take private donations (bribes) and just build whatever he wants. We do not wants Presidents, regardless of party, to just remodel the historic building in his/her image after every election. Not to mention the huge waste of money.

If he wants to change the white house, then fine. Go through the proper process to do it. Make sure it follows the rules and the American people get a say on the construction. Then get it funded by congress so we know that no corruption happens.

  13. Shooter was stopped at door by security. That’s is how security is supposed to work. If anything this proved ballroom is unnecessary because current security at outside functions works just fine.

  14. This is exactly how things *should* go. Just because you want sympathy doesn’t mean you get it. Also if he held his people accountable after the first attempt before he got in the WH, maybe we wouldn’t have had a second or more…

  15. Cutoffjeanshortz37 on

What i don’t get it, they’re staying they have to have the ballroom for security reasons now. Does that mean the president can never leave the White House?

  16. i-have-a-kuato on

When he said it was a matter of national security it never occurred to me he would ever created a scenario where he could point out a situation and say “SEE? this is why it’s a matter of national security”

My question is just what the hell is really going on with that project?

  17. Wild that an attempt on his life and that having the ballroom would eliminate the threat of such was part of his prepared speech.

“See when we are wildly incompetent at all things security, it creates dangerous situations!”

I don’t understand this expectation that people should forgive and forget a person who has had a near death experience ( which may be why Trump leans on it so hard).

It just shows severe emotional disorder.

Like you’ve observed someone who tearfully forgave their teenage son for skipping curfew, after he was in a bad car accident, and think to yourself “hey, I’ll try that!”

“I have observed that normal people forgive other people who have almost died. I want people to forgive me. So I will appear to almost die, and all will be forgiven.”

Why is the media and this current administration framing this incident as an assassination attempt solely against Trump?

It was a building full of people that the suspect shot into before being stopped, he didn’t go straight for Trump. Even the suspects manifesto reads like he’s aware of and disgusted by the amount of corrupt, nasty individuals being in government. And I agree with him. Not condoning his actions though, no one should feel they have to take an act like that.

However, Trump and republicans have spent years normalizing mass shootings. “My rights, my rights” have been screamed from the rooftops and the crazies getting guns is a necessary evil we have to accept has been a major talking point. Trump said “get over it, this is the new normal” after the parkland shooting and to get a gun to protect yourself.

Why is maga land so upset if shootings are normal? Is it because they don’t care about violence everywhere else, only when it’s at their doorsteps?

Because it was staged for this exact purpose. And by that logic, every events the prez attends would have to be in his f*cking ballroom.

  22. Berating the press like a complete asshole isn’t a duty of the president, taxpayers don’t need to build a special venue for that to happen

  23. Drawing_Eh_Blank on

I don’t get it, he’d have plenty of ball room if he just didn’t wear that diaper all the time

  24. Yesterday it was “DOJ encourages plantif to dismiss lawsuit due to assassination attempt”.

  25. VaguelyArtistic on

Me: Okay, but this was not a White House event, it was a private event. How is that supposed to work?

Me five seconds later: Oh they’re going to rent it out for a billion dollars.

  26. Nah, I’ll pass, thanks. Nearly being shot does not change the fact that you are in fact a crappy person. Nor does being shot for that matter change that.

  27. pleachchapel on

If you don’t want to be accused of fabricating a nonevent for political capital, you shouldn’t have every media sycophant immediately tweet about the same unrelated thing you need political capital for right after the “tragedy” which resulted in zero injuries or serious risk for anyone.

  28. Infamous_Cow_4 on

My issue isn’t that they are building a ballroom. It’s that they didn’t go through any of the proper channels and have just decided to ruin everything like a dictator.

  29. permalink_save on

If they can’t secure that small room how can they secure any facility? If someone managed to cause a security incident sounds like his security is pretty shit and that needs to be fixed first otherwise what is a ballroom going to accomplish?

  30. mettiusfufettius on

Lol good, wtf does an assassination attempt have to do with the legality of this construction project?

  31. IdeliverNCIs on

Should have asked to drop the case because Megan Thee Stallion broke up with Klay Thompson. Trump just can’t right now.
